Convenient to not need a power supply. Good buffer maintains high transfer speed. Color swapping is not a necessary feature, but I found it convenient as I now use more than one of these drives and the case color tells me what content is on each (archive v. backup). Included software (ArcSoft) is not the best for backups, but it certainly is better than Retrospect which is included with the Western Digital drives. Absolutely no issues or complaints - very pleased.
